Cruz
"I thought I told you to get out."
Holly offers a very drunk man a sweet smile and his martini. It doesn't waver even as the man slides the olive off the toothpick suggestively and winks at her
"Come on, sweetness," he coaxes. "Give me your number."
"I've already told you no, Greg."
She gives him a gentle push back towards his group of friends. He doesn't go, but instead hovers near the bar, watching us from a distance. When Holly turns her gaze back to me, her gaze flattens into an unfriendly stare.
"You may be the co-president of the club, Cruz, but you're not my only boss. Ryker co-signed on your loan for the place, which means he's also my boss. Cleo talked to him this morning. I'm still gainfully employed at Rapture. So maybe you should move along, huh? I've still got orders to make."
I want to drag her across the bar and paddle her ass until she's so sore she can't sit down. She deserves at least that much for going behind my back to Ryker. The damn minx knows that Ryker can't deny Cleo anything.
"Oh, believe me, I will have a word with him about this."
Holly jams her fist onto one hip and glares at me. "What's your problem? You want an apology, huh? Have it. You're all fucking perfect and I was wrong."
The apology she barks does nothing to appease the anger that has blood slamming hard through my veins. She meant every damn word she said the night before. And if she thinks she's getting away with this without consequences, she's wrong.
"You're not supposed to be here. I told you to leave."
She mixes a Manhattan with impressive speed and hands it off to an elderly gentleman with a smile. Again, it fades as she glances back to me.
"I'm here doing what you asked me to. I've still got about a grand of Harvey's debt to work off and someone has to be around to protect Cleo if Damian shows up. Penny's gone for the weekend."
Well, she has a point there. Cleo needs a protector as much as Holly does. And until Ryker's shift ends at nine, there's no one here to do it.
"I'm here now," I say, stepping closer to the bar. "I'll take care of Cleo. You go."
"No. I'm not leaving until Ryker tells me to get lost. Now leave me be, Cruz. I have work to do."
Greg sidles closer. "Come on, sweetness. Give me your number. I've got to be better than this douchebag."
My hand shoots out and I send him sprawling with a single backhand. Before he can recover, I round the bar and seize Holly's arm, dragging her away from her station and the man who can't take a hint. We nearly bowl Vicky over as we slam through the employee exit and into the hall. She scrambles to get out of our way, knowing too well what sort of mood I'm in and what it heralds. I don't stop until we've reached the kitchen.
